Wanida Thai
1213 Dupont Street
Bellingham, WA 98225
360-746-8642
W Thai Express
2201 Cornwall Ave
Bellingham, WA 98225
360-922-7698
One of the tastiest Thai restaurants in town, they recently opened a second location in the Sunnyland neighborhood called W Thai Express. The new location was quite a foresight into the future, as they only offer to-go and delivery! Our top pick is the lunch combo; You get a generous serving of Pad Thai, served with rice and the curry of the day with your choice of protein. Try the Panang Curry on Wednesday for a burst of flavor!
Soy House
400 W. Holly St
Bellingham, WA 98225
360-393-4857
Favorite: Bahn Mi Sandwich
This Vietnamese specialty starts with a crusty french roll, slathered with ground pork spread, butter, cucumber, pickled carrots, cilantro, and green chili. Choose from grilled chicken, grilled lemongrass pork, grilled lemongrass beef, or BBQ pork. It's always a hard decision between the lemongrass pork or the lemongrass beef! (Insider tip: You can substitute their fresh rolls for the egg rolls or sweet potato fries)
Cascade Pizza
2431 Meridian St
Bellingam, WA 98225
360-671-0999
Throwback favorite: Pepperoni Lasagna
This Fountain District fixture has turned out consistent food since 1978. You can't miss their pepperoni lasagna, with their perfect cheese blend, served with a generously sized side of garlic bread. Also offering their own in-house delivery in the evenings.
Nicki's Bella Marina
2615 S. Harbor Loop Dr
360-332-2505
Favorite: Classic Fish and Chips
We've been side by side with Nicki's on the Best of the Northwest list for several years. With their crispy steak fries and house-made tartar sauce, their tempura-battered fish is guaranteed to satisfy your craving. Don't ask for coleslaw though, because they don't have it!
Coconut Kenny’s
2220 James St
Bellingham, WA 98225
360-647-9273
1740 LaBounty Drive #1
Ferndale, WA 98248
360-656-5974
Favorites: Many look to this local favorite for mouthwatering pizza - but don’t overlook their salads and amazing sandwiches. We personally love the “Maui Cheesesteak” sandwich and if you like a little kick to your pizza try the “Tahiti Mi”. Their drive-up window on James Street makes pick-up easy – even when it’s raining. (Insider tip - All of their sandwiches are $6.99 on Mondays!)
HomeSkillet
521 Kentucky St.
Bellingham, WA 98225
360-671-8502
A favorite for many of our Iron Street guests as well as team members, this eclectic and colorful neighborhood breakfast joint is famous for being unapologetically different. But you won’t have any complaints about the food. Wholesome and tasty. You’ll get big portions from cooks with attitudes. What’s not to love?
Favorite: Breakfast skillet scrambles (too bad to-go meals don’t come on a cast iron skillet)
Greene’s Corner
2208 James Street
Bellingham, WA 98225
360-306-8137
This transplant (from the former Northwest Rd location) has found its niche in Sunnyland. You can find something for everyone, including those looking for vegan options. Their diverse menu with fresh new breakfast options (try the Kimchi breakfast or Sunnyland Scramble) as well as an excellent variety of salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, and “small bites” – are all available for take-out or eating on the covered patio.
Sandwich Odyssey
2001 Cornwall Ave
Bellingham WA 98225
360-738-6919
For anyone new to the area, this place is a must for a great sandwich on the go. Locals know that owner Mirela’s Mediterranean background is infused into all her offerings. It is almost impossible to pick a favorite. Savory wraps and hearty sandwiches like Chicken Parmesan, The Philly Stack, The Bellingham Buster, Meatloaf… Sandwich Odyssey does it all to perfection. The parking lot is usually filled with service vans and police vehicles, but don’t be deterred – they’re all there for the same thing you are. Service is fast and FRIENDLY!
Rome Store Kitchen
2908 Mt Baker Highway
Bellingham, WA 98226
360-592-5841
Located just a few miles East of our new Baker Bear location, this unassuming local grocery store cooks up some tasty grub. Grass-fed burgers, homemade soups made from organic bone broth, grilled sandwiches, and breakfasts made with 100% organic eggs.
If you’re a first-timer, you can’t go wrong with the “When in Rome” burger – Double patty, Swiss cheese, bacon, mushrooms, mustard, and garlic aioli. The selection changes often, so consult their online menu for new offerings including several great vegan and gluten-free options.
Morazan Salvadorian
410 W. Bakerview Road #108
Bellingham, WA 98226
360-656-6617
Located in the back corner of Bakerview Square Plaza, this little gem has gained a loyal following from Whatcom Community College students and area residents. Great food. Great prices. It is definitely worth a try.
We recommend the Pupusas, which are pockets filled with your choice of meat, served with their tangy coleslaw. With their affordable prices, we usually add an order of Pastellitos, which is a corn shell, stuffed with meat and deep-fried that looks similar to an empanada. Be sure to get the Horchata or Agua de Fruta to wash it down.
BONUS PICK!: Fat Shack
414 W Bakerview Rd # 112
Bellingham, WA 98226
360-366-8752
We always give you more than what you bargained for, so please forgive us for turning our Top Ten into a Top Eleven!
Where to start...Life's short, so start with Deep Fried Twinkies or Oreos! We are pretty confident that the team behind this menu was a bunch of stoners because many of their creations are what you would probably dream up in your own kitchen, but they have deep fryers at the ready. Our favorite is the Fat Doobie, which is a hoagie roll stuffed to the max with chicken fingers, french fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, & honey mustard. The bonus here is they even offer delivery, so by the time you get the munchies, you won't need to drive anywhere (nor should you!)
Do you have a local restaurant you didn’t see on our list? Let us know and we’ll get a link posted. Do you have a local food stop you’d like to promote? We want to share the yum.
