Cannabis—The Gateway OUT For Store Assistant Manager, Shawn
Ten years ago, if you had asked Shawn If he thought he’d be a successful, team-building manager and budtender at a legal cannabis shop, he would have looked at you like your head was sewn to the carpet. And that’s not because legalization would have seemed absurd back then. It’s because he was dangerously addicted to drugs and spiraling downward.
“I was self-medicating with anything I could get — heroin, crack, meth. It didn’t matter to me,” he says. Eventually, through hard struggle and sheer determination, he managed to quit — and to help stay off the hard drugs, he used cannabis to ease his withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
Once clean, Shawn got back on his feet and worked his way up to managing a restaurant. Being the high-stress job that it was, he continued to use cannabis to take the edge off. But still, he grew more and more frustrated with his job, so he decided to make another change and enter the cannabis industry.
With his customer service skills and passion for cannabis, he landed a budtending job at 2020 Solutions and immediately fell in love with the industry. He was a natural fit, and before long, Shawn became Store Assistant Manager at the wildly popular Guide Meridian location.
Perhaps his difficult past and humility are what make him such a great manager and so loved by his team. And perhaps it’s his obvious love of the plant, the industry, and helping others. “My favorite part of this job is the people I get to help and the family comaraderie,” he says. “If I won the lottery tonight, I’d still come into work the next day.”
For Shawn and his team, it’s all about connecting with people. It’s the team’s unique combination of personalities, the atmosphere they create, and the bond they build with their guests.
