Microdosing Marijuana—What Is It and What Are the Benefits?

Microdosing is when you add very small doses of a psychedelic drug to your weekly routine for enhanced performance. By imbibing in such small, subperceptual doses, you don’t notice any intoxicating effects. Instead, people report an overall, subtle improvement in mood, focus, creativity, even athletic ability. Cannabis is a great drug to microdose. For one thing, it’s legal. But also because so many of us already love cannabis. We’re familiar with its effects, and understand that it can help us do more than just get high. Perhaps paradoxically for us cannabis lovers, the idea with microdosing marijuana is to avoid getting stoned or high. You take maybe one tenth of your normal dose, and do it on a daily basis—like a supplement—to enhance your daily life. With so many cannabis products on the market, there are myriad ways to microdose. The key is to find something that works and that is repeatable. Tinctures would be a great method. You could simply place a drop or two under your tongue and go about your day. You could use a vape pen and limit yourself to a one- or two-second hit, though this would be a less precise method. You could break off a very tiny bit of flower and smoke it in a water pipe, but this would be even less precise. The key is to find what works, stick with it, and make it part of your routine. Remember you’re not trying to get high or intoxicated in any way. Try it, go about your day, and take note of subtle changes or effects in your life.
