Caviar Gold and Their Cavi-Cones, the World’s Strongest Joint

It’s a lot more than powerful weed.

It’s living cannabis infused with THC oil.

It’s ties to the music industry and friendships with artists.

And it’s five per cent of their profits toward the fight against cancer.

The Invention

Scott Mckinley, manager of Caviar Gold Washington, started our tour by mentioning Mike Brunson, The Inventor of Caviar Gold.

“Inventor—you mean founder? What did he invent?”

“He created the machine that infuses THC Oil back down into a live plant—all the way into it so that when you crack a bud, it’s in the center of the stem," Scott says. "Then we put it all into a vacuum and turn the oil into a wax while it’s inside the bud. Then we roll it in kief. And that is Caviar Gold.”

We walk into a large packaging area where boxes of Cavi-Cones (pre-rolled, organically flavored joints) sit on a table—color-coded for grape, apple, strawberry, raspberry, and vanilla.

Caviar Gold extracts these flavors themselves from organic fruits, adds them to THC oil then uses their machine to infuse it all into their weed.

Scott takes me past a giant mural of a green-tinted woman against a starry sky, smoking a cavi-cone. Then, through a door, and on the other side of the wall is another mural. This one, a psychedelic image of a Native American Medicine Man with an eagle on his shoulder and an alien symbol on his third eye. I’m struck by the art. Turns out, it’s by Jeff Jacobson, AKA Weirdo, Seattle’s only commissioned graffiti artist.

Scott stops me.

“We can’t go past that other wall,” he says. “That’s our R & D area. The machine Mike invented is in there.” They’re very protective of their technology, and for good reason. Each Cavi Cone pre-roll contains an entire half-gram of THC oil. That’s unheard of anywhere else. “Nobody knows how to do what we do,” Scott says.

The Music

Something else no one else does: record and promote big-ticket musical acts, infusing themselves into hip-hop culture.

The inventor and owner of Caviar Gold, Mike Brunson, also owns a music studio, Cavigold Records, in Los Angeles.

When Scott started running Caviar Gold Washington, he also opened a second Cavigold Records in Seattle, partnering with Robert Lang Studios, who recorded Nirvana, Soundgarden, and the Foo Fighters.

Cavigold Records in Seattle records band like Lotus Crush, Everybody Panic!, and The Fail Safe Project, to name just a few. And because of this reach into the music industry, Caviar Gold gets the kind of publicity you just can’t buy.

“In I502—in marijuana—you’re limited to what and where you can advertise,” Scott says. “But, because of freedom of speech in music, [artists] can say what ever they want where ever they want. You can find us in Tech-9 songs, Snoop Dogg songs, Tiga songs, Chris Brown songs. And we didn’t pay for any of that. They were just honest-to-God shout-outs because the artists like our product. That’s the best advertising we can get.”

Caviar Gold and the American Cancer Society

What Scott seems most proud of, is Caviar Gold’s commitment to helping the American Cancer Society— a 100% donation-based organization that's been battling cancer for 103 years.

“Every month, we donate five per cent of our gross profit. We started at $5,000. Last month it was $6,500, then $7,500. And now, a lot of our artists are working with American Cancer Society. And a lot of our stores are doing events that benefit American Cancer Society, so we’re making really good movement with them.”

Where does the money go? The ACS allocates their donations toward specific programs. Caviar Gold's money goes directly toward providing transportation for hundreds of patients a year to get to the hospital for their treatments. This service literally saves lives, and Caviar Gold is honored to be a part of it.
